Delivering Hope V3 is out!
Delivering Hope Version 3.0.0
Thank you for playing Delivering Hope!
I put a lot of work into this update implementing two relatively large systems: The powerup fusion system and Baeless mode. I had plans to add one more large change to the game but decided to postpone it to version 4 as this was getting too large already.
I hope you enjoy the new Baeless Mode when you're not in the mood for a long run and instead just want to try a 2 minute flight.
The powerup Fusion system opens up more possibilities for mix and matching powerups and is aimed towards more "advanced" players, since you'll need to get two compatible powerups to their maximum level before they can be combined.
However, I've also lowered a bit the EXP required to level up, therefore making level ups happen more quickly and hopefully helping less experienced players get more chances to upgrade their build or get that Rat Blocker they desperately needed.
Changes in this update:
Game Mode
- Added Baeless mode: Time limited run. Fly as fast as possible, with no meatballs to slow you down or Bae to stop you. This mode also charges the downboost continously, so use it as much as possible.
Game Mechanics
- Added manual drop from Glider and Rocket: While riding a glider or rocket, the remaining flight time will be displayed on top. At any time, you can drop from the ride by right-clicking.
- Downboost charge will slowly charge when flying really high: In version 3.0 there are more chances to fly at high altitudes. The downboost charge will slowly fill up when flying at really high altitude, so that on the next bounce there's a chance for the player to modify the flight angle with a downboost (if they're fast enough to activate it at the right time).
- Added Powerup fusion: Takes 2 max level powerups and turns them into an improved one, which frees a powerup slot for more upgrades. Only certain powerup combinations are valid, so I invite you to try them all!
- Added Powerup reroll: In the level up screen you will have one chance to roll for new powerup options, however think carefully if it's worth it, because it will cost you a boost charge.
Booster Character and Effect
- Added Kiara: Kiara is a rare booster character that only appears approximately every 1Km, so keep an eye open when you're close to that distance. Hitting Kiara grants the Phoenix Fire effect, which temporarily blocks Bae and makes all booster characters 50% stronger. The effect can be upgraded to last for a longer time.
Consumables
- Added Divorce Papers: This is an upgraded version of the Rat Blocker and will replace it if you already have it.
- Added Rebirth: This consumable can only be activated once per run. Revives chibiRyS with full boost charges after hitting Bae or stopping, giving a second wind to the player.
Powerups
- Added Downboost enhancement: Makes the downboost stronger and can widen the aim angle at higher levels.
- Added Phoenix Fire duration: Increases the effect duration.
- Added Lucky Dice: Lowers the chance of negative effects in holopoly and can remove them at higher levels.
- Added 20 new fusion powerups: Fusion powerups combine the effects of their source powerups and add something extra to make the fusion stronger than its parts.
UI
- Added a visual alert when the next air power-up is near
- Added a little animation to the boost charge counter when gaining or losing charges
- Added mode selection screen (Standard, Classic or Baeless) at the title screen
- Added a Dressing Room for cosmetic customisation (trail effects, accesories)
- Moved the game credits to a dedicated screen.
- Added links to IRyS' YouTube channel, Twitter and Spotify.
- Redesigned the title screen
- Additional run statistics are displayed on the end screen
- Added a message that displays the currently playing song name
Visual changes
- Updated sprites to IRyS 2.0. IRyS 1.0 will show up when playing Classic mode.
- Updated all cutscene animations to use IRyS 2.0 model
- Added unlockable trail effects (Dressing Room)
- Added unlockable chibiRyS accesories (Dressing Room)
- Added Kaela sprite as the downboost "helper"
- Added a couple of new "event themed" backgrounds and chibiRyS outfits
- Adjusted camera behaviour when going very fast to keep the player away from the left edge of the screen.
Audio
- Gave the banana a unique sound effect. I noticed I left another sound as placeholder since v1. Oops.
- ChibiRyS voice will fade out when flying high outside the camera view.
- Added more chibiRyS voice lines when bouncing and picking up soda.
- Added announcer voices to the title screen: Captured from the streams where the talents played the game.
Balancing
- Buffed the rocket powerup
- Buffed the flight duration powerup
- Buffed Kronii's boost power
- Adjusted Calli's hitbox. It was slightly too big in some parts.
- Increased difficulty scaling when flying very long distances (50Km+)
- Lowered a bit the experience required to level up. Classic mode remains the same.
Others
- Added Game speed multiplier (unlockable)
- Added down boost tutorial
- Added 20+ new achievements
- Optimised some textures to reduce total game size.
Mobile specific
- Added a "Force 60fps" setting: This will force the game to run at the maximum screen refresh rate, but will result in higher battery use and potentially getting the device hot if playing for a long time. Be careful when activating this.
- Enlarged the touch area for boost and dive on-screen buttons.
Bug fixes in this update:
- On mobile, players could reach impossible speeds under certain conditions.
- When starting a down boost with chibiRyS near the top edge of the screen, the camera stayed too close and made it difficult to see the aim arrow. The camera will now zoom out.
- Changed the way the title screen background is rendered, which I'm hoping will fix some problems with the mobile version.
